About us

Sisonke Stainless is a Knysna-based stainless-steel workshop serving homes, businesses and marine spaces across the Garden Route. We measure, fabricate and install practical stainless solutions that hold up in coastal weather and daily use.

How Sisonke Stainless Started in Knysna

Sisonke Stainless began in 2019 with a clear local need in mind: stainless work that is properly measured, properly made, and fitted by the same team that quoted it. From our base in Knysna Industria, we have grown from a small stainless operation into a workshop trusted for balustrades, handrails, gates and custom parts across Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Sedgefield, Wilderness, George and Mossel Bay.

Our story is tied to the Garden Route. Coastal humidity, salt air and busy household use all take their toll on metalwork, so the standard has to be practical from the start. We do not treat stainless as a decorative extra. It is a working material that must suit the site, the weather and the way people use the space every day.

Over time, the business has kept the same focus: careful measuring, tidy fabrication and reliable installation. That approach has helped us build long-term relationships with contractors, homeowners, body corporates and marine clients who need work that fits the first time, not after a second trip.

The People Behind the Workshop

Our team brings together hands-on fabrication experience, site knowledge and practical admin so jobs move in a sensible order from first call to final fitment. Siyabonga Mthembu leads the business as Managing Director, with Annelise van Wyk handling operations and keeping work flowing between the office, workshop and site teams.

Luyanda Ngesi supervises the workshop, while Ruan Botha leads site installation and helps make sure fittings, alignment and finish are right on the day. Nokuthula Dlamini coordinates estimating so quotes are clear and complete. Johan Nel handles fabrication detail, which matters when a custom part needs to match existing work or fit a tight opening.

This kind of structure matters because stainless jobs often involve several moving parts. A gate may need hardware fitment, a balustrade may need glass fitment, and a marine job may need repairs plus surface restoration. When the same team is involved from start to finish, there is less confusion and fewer surprises on site.

What We Stand For on Every Job

Our work is guided by a few simple values: honest measuring, practical advice, neat workmanship and respect for the site. If a detail will affect the final result, we say so early. If there is a better way to handle a fitting, a fixing point or a finish, we explain it plainly. That saves time and helps avoid expensive changes once fabrication has started.

We also keep an eye on the realities of coastal properties and working buildings. Stainless in Knysna or George may face damp air, spray, grease, traffic or constant touching on handrails and gates. A good finish is important, but so is the right grade, the right bracket, the right weld preparation and the right maintenance plan. Small things count, and they count quickly.

For us, value means giving clients work that is built for the site instead of forcing a standard part to fit a non-standard opening. It also means turning up when we say we will, keeping communication clear, and leaving the area as tidy as possible once the job is complete. That sounds basic, but it is usually what clients remember most.

How We Handle a Stainless Job from Quote to Fitment

Most jobs start with a site visit or clear measurements, depending on what the project needs. From there we prepare shop drawings where required, confirm fixing points and materials, then fabricate in our Knysna workshop. Once the part is ready, our installation team schedules fitment and finishes the job on site. For some work, especially gates and balustrades, this process avoids a lot of rework and keeps the final result neat.

We handle a mix of work that often needs more than one skill set. A custom balustrade may need stainless welding, glass fitment and final alignment. A marine fitting may need restoration work because of salt exposure. A gate may need hardware fitment and later maintenance checks. Because we manage these steps in-house, the handover between workshop and site stays practical.

  • Site measuring and confirmation of dimensions
  • Shop drawings for custom or complex work
  • Fabrication in stainless suited to the application
  • Onsite installation with fitting adjustments where needed
  • Final checks for alignment, finish and function

Built for the Garden Route, Not Just the Catalogue

We work in places where weather, terrain and building styles vary a lot. A handrail in Sedgefield is not the same as one in central George. A coastal gate in Plettenberg Bay may need different attention to fixings than a courtyard gate in Knysna. We keep that in mind when we choose materials, plan fabrication and decide how to install.

Many clients come to us because they want custom stainless parts that fit an existing building or a new project with unusual measurements. That might include a balustrade around a stoep, a stair handrail for a narrow passage, a marine fitting for a boat, or a repair to older stainless that is still worth keeping. In each case the aim is the same: make it fit properly and make it last.

We also know that homes and businesses cannot always stop for long. On commercial sites, access times may be limited. On residential work, families need clear timelines and neat work areas. On coastal properties, weather windows matter. So we plan the job with real conditions in mind, not just the drawing board.

Why Clients Keep Coming Back

Clients return to Sisonke Stainless because they want a workshop that understands both fabrication and installation. It is one thing to make a part in the workshop. It is another thing to get it onto site, lined up properly, and finished so it works as intended. That is where our team structure helps. The people who price the job, measure it, make it and fit it all know how the next step affects the one after that.

We also offer maintenance checks, stainless repairs and surface restoration, which helps extend the life of existing work. Not every project needs replacement. Sometimes a cleaned, repaired and properly adjusted fitting is the better choice. That practical view saves clients money and keeps useful metalwork in service for longer.

If you are in Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Sedgefield, Wilderness, George or Mossel Bay and need stainless work done properly, we are set up for it. From first measurement to final fixings, we aim to keep the process clear, the workmanship neat and the result fit for the space. Minor delays can happen on site, but we keep clients informed and get the job done without fuss.
