Where Stainless Works

Our stainless work is used across residential, hospitality, marine and public settings in the Garden Route. We tailor layouts and finishes to the demands of each environment.

Choosing The Right Stainless Job For The Site

Not every site needs the same grade of work or the same fixing method. A coastal deck in Wilderness asks for different detailing than a farm gate near Sedgefield, and a busy guesthouse in Knysna needs a neater hand finish than a private stoep with light use. We help clients choose between balustrades, handrails, gates, brackets and smaller custom parts, then work out what will hold up in daily use.

The right choice usually comes down to three things: exposure to salt air, how often the item will be used, and what the municipal or body corporate rules call for. If the layout is tight or the opening is uneven, we will first take site measurements and then prepare the shop drawings so the fit is right the first time, not after a second visit.

  • For homes: balustrades, stair rails, pool surrounds and gate fittings
  • For hospitality: balcony rails, service rails and durable entrance gates
  • For marine and coastal sites: corrosion aware fittings and marine hardware
  • For public areas: handrails, access rails and repair work on worn components

Residential Balustrades And Handrails

Many of our calls come from homeowners and small contractors who want a clean stainless finish that looks right with brick, plaster, timber or glass. In Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and George, we often install balcony balustrades, stair handrails and poolside rails where safety, sightlines and easy cleaning all matter. We work to the actual opening on site, because older homes are seldom square and the post positions can vary by a few millimetres.

We can supply plain tube rails, framed infill sections and glass fitment where a clearer view is preferred. If the job needs extra strength for children, guests or rental use, we will discuss spacing, fixing points and where load is transferred. Coastal humidity and salty air mean a neat install still needs proper detailing, so we pay attention to drainage, fasteners and weld finishing.

  • Balcony and stair balustrades
  • Handrails for entrances, ramps and steps
  • Pool area rails and safety supports
  • Glass fitment and finishing around rails

Gates, Hardware And Access Points

Stainless gates and hardware are often chosen where rust becomes a problem or where a smarter finish is needed at the front of the property. We fabricate and install gate parts, fit hinges and locks, and repair tired stainless components for homes, body corporates and business premises across Mossel Bay, George and Knysna. If the opening is irregular, we measure it on site and build to suit the actual clearance, not a guessed size.

We also handle gate hardware fitment on existing steel or timber frames when the structure is sound but the fittings need replacing. On exposed coastal sites, the little details matter a lot: alignment, clearance for movement, and hardware that still works well after winter rain and summer heat. A gate that closes cleanly saves a lot of call backs later.

Marine Fitouts And Coastal Conditions

Marine work asks for careful material choices and practical finishing. We handle stainless parts for boats, pontoons and harbour related fittings where spray, movement and regular washing are part of the job. Knysna Lagoon conditions are one thing, but open coastal exposure near Plettenberg Bay or Mossel Bay can be harder on fittings, so we plan for that from the start.

Our marine fitouts and repair work often include brackets, rails, cleats, covers and replacement pieces made to match the existing setup. We also carry out surface restoration on parts that have stained, marked or lost their finish over time. If the item is worth keeping, we will look at whether it can be cleaned, repaired or reworked before recommending a replacement.

Maintenance Checks That Prevent Bigger Failures

Stainless does not mean maintenance free, especially close to the coast. We offer maintenance checks for balustrades, gates, handrails and other fixed items so small issues can be caught before they become loose fittings or damaged welds. This is useful for guesthouses, rented homes and commercial sites where a fault can cause a safety issue or interrupt normal use.

A quick inspection can show up worn fixings, movement in posts, staining from trapped moisture or damage from impact. We then advise on the next step, whether that is a repair, a partial rebuild, or a simple tightening and clean. In our part of the world, a bit of preventative work goes a long way, especially after heavy rain and windy spells.

  • Loose or working fittings
  • Surface staining and corrosion spots
  • Movement at posts or brackets
  • Wear caused by salt air, rain and daily use

How To Use This Hub

If you are not sure where your project fits, start with the basic use of the item. A handrail for a short stoep step is a different job from a full balcony balustrade. A repaired gate bracket is different again from a custom marine part. This hub groups the main areas so you can move quickly to the service that matches your needs.

For the best result, send us the site location, a rough size, a few photos and any rules that apply to the property. From there we can advise on the likely scope, what needs measuring, and whether shop drawings are needed before fabrication starts. Our Knysna Industria base supports work across Knysna, Sedgefield, Wilderness, George, Plettenberg Bay and Mossel Bay, so we can usually plan the job around the site and not the other way around.

Questions we get asked

Do you work on both new installations and repairs?

Yes. We do new fabrication, repairs, surface restoration and maintenance checks, depending on what the site needs.

Can you help if the opening is not standard?

Yes. We do site measuring and shop drawings so the finished item suits the actual opening, even where walls or posts are uneven.

Which areas do you cover?

We work across Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Sedgefield, Wilderness, George and Mossel Bay, with jobs planned from our Knysna Industria base.
