Onsite Installation

We fit stainless balustrades, handrails, gates and custom components on site across Knysna and the Garden Route. Our team handles setting out, fixing, alignment and final checks so the finished work suits the space and holds up in daily use.

What our onsite fitting covers

Onsite installation is where careful fabrication meets the real conditions of a site. Walls are never quite square, coastal wind pushes on handrails, and older homes or commercial buildings often need small adjustments before a clean final fit is possible. We install balustrades, handrails, gates, brackets, posts, frames, marine fittings and other custom stainless parts for homes, guest lodges, retail spaces and light industrial sites.

Our fitting team arrives with the right tools for drilling, anchoring, levelling and final alignment. We work with concrete, masonry, steel and timber substrates, and we take note of moisture, salt air and access constraints before any fixing starts. In Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Sedgefield, Wilderness, George and Mossel Bay, that matters because coastal humidity and wind can affect both the schedule and the fixing method.

  • Balustrade and handrail installation for stairs, decks and balconies
  • Gate fitting, hinges, latches and closing hardware
  • Custom stainless component installation and bracket work
  • Glass fitment where stainless frames or clamps are involved
  • Removal and replacement of damaged fittings on existing structures

How we prepare before we come to site

Good installation starts before the vehicle leaves Knysna Industria. We first confirm the measured dimensions, check shop drawings, and compare the fabrication details against the site conditions. If there are changes to slab levels, wall finishes or opening sizes, we flag them early so there are no surprises during the fitment stage.

For gates and access points we also confirm swing direction, clear opening, latch height and ground clearance. For balustrades and handrails we check fixing points, post spacing, load direction and any local body corporate or municipal requirements that may affect height or placement. A common spec is a handrail height of about 900 mm to 1 000 mm, with balustrades often set around 1 000 mm to 1 100 mm depending on the application and site rules.

  • Site review and final measurement verification
  • Confirmation of fixing surfaces and access
  • Checking drawings, hardware and finish requirements
  • Planning for dust control, drilling and safe access
  • Scheduling around weather, occupancy and load-shedding windows

Our installation process from arrival to handover

When we arrive, the first job is to protect the work area and set out the installation points accurately. We level posts, mark fixings, drill and anchor with the correct hardware for the substrate, then check alignment before any final tightening. Stainless parts are handled carefully so the finish stays clean, especially on mirror or brushed surfaces.

Once the main structure is secure, we fit infill panels, glass clamps, gate hardware, stops, catches or decorative components. Every joint, fastener and visible edge gets a final inspection. Where a site needs minor adjustments, we can trim, shim or re-align on the spot, provided the change keeps the installation within safe tolerances.

We finish with a clean-down and handover check. That includes testing gate movement, checking handrail stability, confirming clearances and making sure the installer leaves the area tidy. On busy sites such as guest houses, restaurants or commercial entrances we work with as little disruption as possible, and yes we try to keep the noise down, though drilling into concrete will always sound like drilling into concrete.

Turnaround times and site coordination

Turnaround depends on access, weather, complexity and the number of items to be fitted. A simple handrail or a small gate install may be completed in a single visit, while a larger balcony balustrade or a set of linked components can take one to three days on site. If glass fitment is part of the job, we allow extra time for handling, cleaning and final alignment.

We coordinate closely with builders, homeowners, estate managers and contractors so the installation happens at the right stage of the project. If walls still need plaster, paint or waterproofing, it is better to wait than to rush the fixings. In coastal towns, we also watch the weather. High wind and heavy rain can delay work, and on a load-shedding day we may shift the sequence to make sure power tools and site access are managed properly.

  • Small installs: often same week, subject to schedule
  • Medium jobs: usually 2 to 5 working days from confirmation
  • Larger projects: planned in phases with agreed site dates
  • Repairs and replacement visits: booked around urgency and access

Pricing approach for onsite installation

We price onsite installation according to the actual work involved, not a one-size-fits-all rate. The main factors are distance, site access, fixing substrate, height above ground, number of fixings, hardware type and whether extra labour is needed for lifting or alignment. A ground-floor handrail on a straight wall is not priced the same as a curved balcony balustrade on an upper storey with tight access.

Our estimates are clear and practical. If the job needs scaffolding, cherry picker access, traffic control or after-hours fitting, we note that up front. We also separate fabrication, hardware and installation where helpful, so clients can see exactly what is included. For maintenance or repair callouts, we assess the condition first and then confirm whether a simple adjustment, surface restoration or part replacement will solve it.

We keep pricing fair for Knysna and the wider Garden Route market because repeat clients and proper after-sales support matter more than quick one-off work. That means no vague extras hidden at the end, and no guesswork once the team is on site. If a site changes after measurement, we revise the quote before proceeding.

Maintenance intervals after installation

Even stainless steel needs proper care, especially near the sea. In Knysna, Wilderness and Mossel Bay, salt air can build up on surfaces and hardware faster than many clients expect. We recommend a light wash and visual check every 1 to 3 months for coastal properties, and every 3 to 6 months inland or on sheltered sites. Gates and moving parts should be checked more often if they are used daily.

Our maintenance checks focus on fastener tightness, surface condition, gate movement, hinge wear, latch operation and any signs of staining or crevice build-up. If needed, we can clean, restore the surface finish, replace worn hardware or re-secure loose fixings before they become a bigger issue. A small adjustment now is cheaper than a failing bracket later, especially on a balcony or access point where safety matters.

  • Rinse with clean water to remove salt and dust
  • Check for loose fixings, squeaks or movement
  • Keep hinges and locks free of sand and grit
  • Book a periodic inspection for exposed coastal installations
  • Report any staining, cracks or impact damage early

Why clients call our fitting team

Clients choose our onsite installation service because the work is done by people who understand both fabrication and field conditions. We know what stainless can do on a drawing, and what it needs when it is standing on a windy deck or fixed into an uneven wall. That practical experience helps the finished result look right and work properly from day one.

We handle installations for private homes, holiday properties, body corporates and commercial sites across the Garden Route. Whether it is a single handrail in Sedgefield or a set of balustrades and gates in George, we bring the same measured approach. If a part needs fine adjustment on site, we deal with it there and then rather than leaving the job half done.

For new work, repairs or phased project rollouts, our team is available through Knysna Industria and can plan visits to suit the site and the deadline. The aim is simple: secure fixing, neat finish, and fittings that stay serviceable for the long run.

What clients say

Questions we get asked

Do you install both new and existing stainless components?

Yes. We fit new fabricated items and also replace or re-secure existing parts where the structure is sound and the fixings can be brought back into spec.

Can you work on coastal properties with salt exposure?

Yes. We regularly install and maintain stainless work near the sea, and we use fitting methods suited to humidity, wind and salt build-up.

How do you price onsite installation jobs?

We quote according to access, height, fixing surface, hardware, labour and travel. If there are special access needs or extra site work, we spell that out before we start.
