What We Can Repair On Site or In the Workshop
We handle repair work for stainless items that have picked up damage through coastal weather, hard use, poor installation or general wear. In Knysna and the Garden Route, we often see tea staining from salt air, loose base plates, broken welds, damaged gate parts and handrails that have worked loose after years of movement. If the item is worth saving, we will tell you so and fix it properly.
Our team can inspect the item at your property or bring it into the Knysna Industria workshop for closer work. Where the damage is minor we can often repair it without changing the full structure. Where the part is badly corroded, bent or unsafe, we will advise on replacement sections rather than patching something that should be renewed.
How to Send a Repair Request
Start with a clear message to projects@sisonkemanufacturing.co.za. Include the town, a short description of the problem and a few photos from different angles. If you can, add rough measurements and say whether the item is inside, outside or close to the coast. That helps us decide whether we can repair it on site or need to collect it.
- Your name and contact number
- Suburb or town, such as Knysna, Sedgefield or George
- What needs repair: balustrade, gate, handrail, marine fitting or custom part
- Photos of the full item and the damaged area
- Any size or thickness details you already have
Once we have that, we can give you a next step and arrange a visit or workshop check.
Replacement Parts and Matching Existing Work
Many repairs are not about replacing the whole item. Often it is a bracket, hinge, latch, post cap, fixings or a length of tubing that needs to match what is already there. We make replacement parts to suit existing stainless work and aim to keep the finish and fixing points close to the original. That matters on older balustrades and gates where the rest of the installation is still sound.
If the part is no longer standard or has been altered over time, we can measure up and make a new section to fit. In some cases we also improve the detail so it lasts longer in coastal conditions and is easier to maintain later.
- Matched brackets and joiners
- Gate latches, stops and mounting plates
- Handrail returns and end caps
- Glass support parts and clamp pieces
- Custom stainless brackets for marine use
Restoration for Stained, Scratched or Weathered Stainless
Stainless does not always need a full repair if the issue is surface marking. We can restore many items by cleaning, polishing and reworking the surface so the metal looks closer to its original finish. This helps with fittings that have picked up rust staining from nearby steel, builders debris, mortar splatter or years of salt exposure.
If the surface has been badly treated, we will say what is possible before we start. Some marks sit only on the outside layer and can be removed with proper cleaning. Other marks have gone deeper and need more involved work. Either way, we give you a plain answer so you know what you are paying for.
Repair Checks for Safety and Load Issues
A loose handrail or gate is not just untidy, it can be unsafe. We check fixing points, welds, wall plugs, post alignment and movement at the joints before we sign off repair work. This is important on stair rails, balcony rails and boundary gates where regular use puts strain on the fittings.
If the item was installed a long time ago we may also look for hidden issues such as water trapped at the base, failed sealant or metal that has thinned over time. Small faults caught early usually cost less to sort out than waiting until the whole section needs replacing.
- Loose posts or wall fixings
- Gate sagging or rubbing on the ground
- Cracked welds or failed joints
- Missing caps, screws or cover pieces
- Water entry points around fixings
Why Coastal Areas Need More Frequent Maintenance
From Wilderness through Sedgefield to Mossel Bay, the air can work on metal faster than many owners expect. Even stainless needs care when it is near surf, river mouths or busy roads where grime and moisture collect. A quick wash now and then helps, but items exposed to the weather may need regular maintenance checks to stay in good condition.
We can schedule a return visit for cleaning, tightening and small repairs before the problem grows. That is often the best way to protect a balustrade or gate that still has plenty of life left in it.
What Happens After You Approve the Repair
After you approve the quote, we set a date that suits the site and the work needed. For onsite jobs we bring the tools, fixings and parts required and confirm the final fit before leaving. For workshop repairs we collect or receive the item, carry out the work and then arrange reinstallation if needed.
We keep the process practical. You get one point of contact, clear timing and a proper handover once the repair is done. If something needs a follow up check after a few weeks, we can arrange that too.
